Dear students,

If ever there was a reason to celebrate, this is it: the University of Lucerne is turning 25! Mark 25 October 2025 in your calendars – we’d like to celebrate our 25th anniversary together with you and as many guests as possible. Without giving too much away just yet, one thing is certain: on this day, every corner of the university building and its surroundings will be brought to life, transformed and buzzing with activity! Around 60 ideas from across the university are currently in development.
Everyone – and we really mean everyone – is warmly invited to join us on 25 October. After all, our university is an integral part of society, the economy, the city and canton of Lucerne, Central Switzerland, and the vibrant Swiss and international communities engaged in education, research and innovation. Together with all these stakeholders, the University of Lucerne aims to help tackle the great challenges of our time. But to make a real impact, we first need to understand what moves people.
In line with our motto, “We are moved by what moves people”, we want to deepen our dialogue with the public on 25 October. Dear students, we encourage you to engage in dialogue with society as part of your everyday university life – to share your insights with the wider world and, just as importantly, listen to concerns and suggestions. Open science, citizen science and science communication don’t just happen in research or communications departments but are mindsets and practices that permeate every part of university.
I wish you a successful end to the semester.
With warm regards,
Sabine Gysi, Head of University Communications (since April 2025)
P.S. More details about the celebration, which is also being organised by SOL and the student councils, will be posted on our anniversary website as they become available. You’ll also find all the information in the next semester newsletter in September. And: We are looking for volunteers to support the anniversary celebration – see the article in this newsletter to find out more.
