Who is Prof. Pasquale Porro?

Pasquale Porro, PhD in Philosophy (Rome 1994), is Full Professor of Medieval Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy and Dante Philosophy at the Department of Humanities [Studium] of the University of Turin. He has published extensively on Scholastic philosophy, including Forme E Modelli Di Durata Nel Pensiero Medievale: L’Aevum, Il Tempo Discreto, La Categoria “Quando” (Ancient and Medieval Philosophy) (Leuven University Press, 1996). Thomas Aquinas: A Historical and Philosophical Profile (Catholic University of America Press, 2016).

Who is Prof. Olga Lizzini?

Olga L. Lizzini (Aix-Marseille Université / Université de Genève) is a scholar of metaphysics specializing in the definition of the First Principle, the doctrine of causality, and the epistemology of Arabic Neoplatonism. She published the first Italian translation of Avicenna’s Metaphysics and has written extensively on medieval Arabic philosophy and theology, including the works of al-Fārābī, Yaḥyā ibn ʿAdī, Avicenna, and al-Ghazālī. Her publications include Fluxus (Bari 2011) and Avicenna (Rome 2012). She co-authored the section on Islamic angelology in Angeli (Neri Pozza 2009) and co-edited Avicenne? Épître sur la prophétie (Paris 2018) and La philosophie arabe à l’étude / Studying Arabic Philosophy (Paris 2019).

Who is Dr. Marta Borgo?

"Marta Borgo has been a member of the Leonine Commission (Paris) since 2010. She collaborated on the critical edition of Aquinas’s Sermons (Cerf, 2014) and she contributes to the preparation of other volumes of the Leonine collection, with a focus on the documentation of the sources of Aquinas’ texts. She is in charge of the critical edition of Aquinas’ commentaries on Aristotle’s Metaphysics and Physics. In addition to her philological work, she regularly publishes papers in peer-reviewed journals. Her main interests include the reception and use of Aristotle’s natural philosophy and metaphysics in the Medieval Latin West, especially in theological contexts. Among other matters, she has written on the notion of matter and seminal reasons in the context of creation, and on the concepts of nature, genus and species, as applied to the cases of angels and demons."

Who is Prof. Sarah Byers?

Sarah Byers (University of Toronto) is Associate Professor at the Philosophy Department at Boston College. Her research focuses on ancient and medieval philosophy, particularly on Augustine of Hippo, Hellenistic philosophy, and Aquinas and the classics. She is the author of Perception, Sensibility, and Moral Motivation in Augustine (Cambridge University Press, 2012) and has published numerous essays on topics such as Augustine’s theory of illumination, the Stoic tradition, and early Christian ethics.

Who is Prof. Brian Carl?

Brian Carl is Associate Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. He received his Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America, where he wrote on the order of the divine attributes in Thomas Aquinas. His research focuses on medieval metaphysics, particularly Aquinas’s philosophical theology, as well as philosophy of religion and cognitive theory, and he has recently explored how Thomistic metaphysics can be reconciled with evolutionary theory. In 2023, he presented internationally in Rome, Barcelona, and Washington D.C. on topics such as divine simplicity, perfection, and goodness, contributing to a growing worldwide renewal of interest in Aquinas’s thought.
