Patrik Hummel ist seit 1. Mai 2025 ordentlicher Professor für Philosophie und Blockchain an der Universität Luzern. Er arbeitet zu philosophischen Aspekten von Datafizierung und Automatisierung und deren Interaktion mit Konzepten wie Gerechtigkeit, Souveränität, Identität und Gesundheit.
Von September 2021 bis April 2025 war er Assistant Professor in der Philosophy & Ethics Group der TU Eindhoven und Forscher im niederländischen Gravitation Programme „Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies“. Von Januar 2018 bis August 2021 war er Postdoc am Lehrstuhl für Systematische Theologie II (Ethik) an der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. Dort arbeitete er in Forschungsprojekten zu ethischen und gesellschaftlichen Aspekten von Big Data und KI im Gesundheitssektor.
Er promovierte 2018 im St Andrews and Stirling Graduate Programme for Philosophy mit der Arbeit “Personal Identity and Practical Reason”. Während seines Promotionsstudiums war er Mitglied des Arché Research Centre for Logic, Language, Metaphysics and Epistemology an der University of St Andrews. Ferner war er als Carlo Schmid Fellow (DAAD) und Consultant für die Global Health Ethics Unit der WHO in Genf tätig.
