Further Education

Traditional leadership training courses often concentrate on administrative aspects and on understanding day-to-day operations (finances, controlling, marketing, macro and micro economics, etc.). They rarely address the specific themes which gain in relevance in exacting situations (decision-making, human factors, information management). The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Effective Leadership is a joint advanced studies programme of the University of Lucerne and the Swiss Armed Forces College (SAFC) and fills a gap in that it trains the skills required for leadership in situations with an acute need for action.
The MAS consists of three certificate courses plus a master module and thesis which build on the content of the certificate courses.

Providing humanitarian aid to people affected by conflicts and natural disasters is a demanding, multifaceted, and challenging task. In light of numerous challenges – such as time pressure, interdisciplinary collaboration, limited financial resources, and complex team dynamics – the continuing education programme “Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Humanitarian Leadership” offers a tailored opportunity for humanitarian leaders.
This joint programme combines academic foundations, provided by the University of Lucerne, with practical know-how and proven field expertise from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
The MAS comprises three Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) programmes and a subsequent master’s module, which includes a final master’s thesis.
