Strategie and implementation
The University of Lucerne's approach to promoting equality and diversity rests on two key instruments: the Diversity Strategy (an implementation plan that sets out measures and targets for the whole university every four years), and the faculties' equality plans, which define specific targets for their respective areas.
The University of Lucerne has set out its principles and strategic objectives in a Diversity Strategy, which was adopted in July 2020. In it, the University affirms that it recognises the diversity of its students and staff and takes this into account in all its actions - a commitment it upholds at the legal, ethical and operational levels.
For the four-year period ending in 2028, the University has adopted the 2025–2028 implementation plan for the Diversity Strategy. This plan defines objectives and measures across the following areas of action:
- Promoting women's academic careers
- Making the university inclusive
- Strengthening gender and diversity competence
- Enabling work-life balance
Each of the University of Lucerne's six faculties draws up its own equality plan, setting out specific objectives and measures to advance equality and diversity within their respective areas.
The faculty equality plans are published here.
- Equality Plan of the Faculty of Theology
- Equality Plan of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
- Equality Plan of the Faculty of Law
- Equality Plan of the Faculty of Economics and Management
- Equality Plan of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine
- Equality Plan of the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences and Psychology
(The faculty is still being established. The equality plan will follow).
The University of Lucerne receives project-based funding from Swissuniversities to promote equal opportunities in the areas of gender equality, diversity and inclusion.
For the period 2025–2026, this funding supports two projects:
- Inclusive leadership culture
- Improving the study and working conditions of people with disabilities
These project-based grants enable the University to take an innovative approach to putting equality into practice.
