Students who are entirely unable to attend any lectures over a prolonged period on important grounds (illness, accident, maternity, work placement, military or civil service) can be granted a leave of absence by the responsible Dean’s office upon written request. Leaves of absence are valid for a semester and can usually be granted a maximum of two times per study level. Students on leave remain registered at the University of Lucerne but do not pay any semester fees. They can neither attend lectures nor take exams. Students on leave can still use the libraries and retain their student e-mail account.
Deadlines for requesting leave
Leave must be applied for in writing and in good time from the Dean’s office. The deadlines are as follows: spring semester: 15 February, autumn semester: 15 September.
Requests received after these dates will not be processed.
