Externally achieved performance and Application
It is the decision of the Study and Examination Board whether externally produced achievements are taken into account or not. Taking into account externally produced achievements requires proof of performance from the respective universities and equivalence of content with the MSc Health Sciences program.
Achievements that have already been taken into account for a different degree, cannot be taken into account for the MSc Health Sciences.
Only achievements can be taken into account that were produced not more than eight years ago.
Planning of studies
The master program is basically structured as a full time program. By choosing the courses in each semester you have the possibility to design your studies according to your availability. There are no rules on how many courses/ ECTS per semester you have to obtain. If you study full-time this would normally be 30 ECTS each semester. If you do less, the study time extends accordingly.
We recommend our part-time students to arrange for a consultation once they have been officially admitted. We then help in setting up an individual study plan as some of the courses are prerequisites for other courses.
The Master in Health Sciences starts every fall term.
Exams
You can find the dates for the exam period on our exam website.
The dates for specific courses can be found on the current exam plan overview (on the exam website), as well as in the course catalogue.
Signing up for exams and other proof of performance is mandatory. Without signing up, you cannot take part and the course will not show up on your transcript of records. This is true for courses without an examination as well.
Signing up runs via Uniportal during the registration period (dates can be found on the exam website).
During registration period, you can sign up or withdraw again from an exam/course participation. After the period is over, you can no longer sign up or withdraw.
During the exam there will be an English dictionary provided. Personal dictionaries are not allowed.

Signing up for an exam is binding.
In any case, the deregistration must be made before the start of the examination by e-mail or by telephone to the study center.
Deregistration after the start of the examination is generally no longer possible.
It is mandatory that original receipts be submitted in order to withdraw from exams without consequence. Illness or accident must be documented by a certificate of incapacity (medical certificate), a birth of a child by a birth certificate, the death of a close relative by a a death certificate or a death notice, and a severe traffic obstruction by a confirmation from the of the transport company for the relevant period and the affected route. The exam can be repeated during the following exam session.
If you do not turn up for an exam without excuse, you will be graded with a 1.
If an examination was failed, it can be repeated any number of times (with the exception of the Master’s thesis) given that the assignment or course continues to be part of the course catalogue and possible maximum limits for failed attempts (30 ECTS) are not exceeded. There is no entitlement to repeat an examination immediately. As a rule, an examination can only be repeated during the following examination session.
If an assignment or course is not offered going forward, it can be replaced with an equivalent assignment or course, i.e. according to the applicable guidelines.
Exams can generally be reviewed if they have been failed. Room, date and the deadline for sign-up are listed on the exam website. Signing up happens via e-mail to masterhealth@unilu.ch. Signing up is binding and a deregistration has to be communication to the Study Center as soon as possible.

Change of study program, Leave of Absence, Military service
A change of study program is possible if you have not been barred from your chosen study course. Before a change of study program, please inform yourself about the requirements of your chosen study program. The specific program counsellor will help you with your questions.
Prospective students from another faculty/university who wish to study at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine: The decision about taking into account externally produced achievements are made by the Study and Examination Board. This can be done only after immatriculation. Advice given beforehand is not binding.
If you wish to change from another faculty within the University of Lucerne, please contact the program counsellor of the chosen study program. They will check your change and give you more information. Furthermore, they will check which Study and Examination regulation is binding. Please inform them on your definitive wish to change your study program and they will inform Student Services. Student Services will process your change as soon as possible and confirm it in writing. To take into account already achieved ECTS, please hand in your Transcript of Records and the corresponding syllabus to your program counsellor for checking.
If you want to change from the University of Lucerne to another university: Please apply your change via Uniportal (https://portal.unilu.ch/) under “Exmatriculation”. A confirmation of your exmatriculation will be uploaded for you on Uniportal. This you will need when applying for another university. The receiving university is responsible for taking into account already achieved ECTS.
Students who are entirely unable to attend any lectures over a prolonged period on important grounds (illness, accident, maternity, work placement, military or civil service) can be granted a leave of absence by the Study Centre upon written request. Leaves of absence are valid for a semester and can usually be granted a maximum of two times per study level. Students on leave remain registered at the University of Lucerne but do not pay any semester fees. They can neither attend lectures nor take exams. Students on leave can still use the libraries and retain their student e-mail account.
Leave must be applied for in writing and in good time from the Study Centre. The deadlines are as follows: spring semester: 15 February, autumn semester: 15 September. Please send it to masterhealth@unilu.ch
Students who have been summoned upon for Military service can send in a request for service postponement, as long as their shift falls into the course phase or students are in their Master procedure.
