Study content
Economists deal with questions that are economically, socially and entrepreneurially relevant today and tomorrow:
- Why do booms and recessions occur?
- What factors determine the attractiveness of an industry and the positioning of a company?
- Can a state go bankrupt?
- Which business and marketing strategy suits which company?
- Which HR measures are best suited to attract and develop talent?
- How do individual decisions, emotions and social influences affect economic behaviour?
Tomorrow's leaders must be able to shape the markets of the future. A broad theoretical foundation in economics, coupled with regular practical examples, creates the best conditions for future success.
But how do individual decisions, emotions and social influences affect economic actions? The Economics programme with a minor in Psychology takes into account the fact that economic decisions are significantly influenced by human behaviour.
Using innovative teaching methods, our lecturers equip students with the skills to analyse and structure even the most challenging problems facing organisations and solve them using modern methods in the field of data science. The courses combine the latest scientific findings, high standards and practical relevance. Guest speakers from the field, case studies and close cooperation with organisations ensure a diverse and modern range of courses.
Study structure
The programme is divided into the major subject of economics (150 credits) and the minor subject of psychology (30 credits).
While the economics major imparts sound analytical, methodological and strategic skills in the fields of business administration and economics, the minor subject of psychology places a complementary focus on motivation, decision-making processes and social dynamics. The psychological focus promotes an understanding of the interactions between human behaviour and economic decisions. The minor in psychology includes lectures on cognitive psychology, social psychology, personality psychology, and industrial and organisational psychology. Methodology courses such as mathematics and statistics complement the programme, and to understand the legal framework of economic activity, you will also receive an introduction to private law and public law.
