Three new honorary doctorates
On 22 October, the University of Lucerne will hold its academic celebration, the Dies Academicus. This year, honorary doctorates will be awarded to Professor Stephan Meier, Professor Susanne Walitza, MD, and Professor Joseph Ciarrochi.
The ceremony, attended by invited guests, will open with a welcome address by University President Martin Hartmann, followed by a keynote speech from Helen Wyler, Assistant Professor of Legal Psychology. Its highlight will be the conferral of the honorary doctorates by the faculties: under the rotation system, this year's honourees will receive their degrees from the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, and the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences and Psychology.

In addition to the conferral of honorary doctorates, the "Best Teaching Award," the dissertation prizes, and the "Alumna of the Year" and "Alumnus of the Year" awards will be presented at the Dies Academicus, with the names of the prize-winners announced at the event. Doctoral students will also offer insights into their research projects.
This year's "In the Spotlight" welcome address will be delivered by Dr Karin Stadelmann, a member of the Lucerne Cantonal Parliament and lecturer in Social Work at HSLU, with a further welcome message from the Lucerne secondary schools. The closing address will be given by Dr Armin Hartmann, Member of the Cantonal Government and Director of Education and Culture for the Canton of Lucerne.
