Manuel Oechslin appointed Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management
The faculty assembly has elected Professor Manuel Oechslin as the new Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Lucerne. He will start his new role on 1 August 2026.
Manuel Oechslin has been a full professor of international economics at the University of Lucerne since 2014. He studied economics at the University of Zurich and Humboldt University in Berlin and received his doctorate in Zurich in 2006. He then served as a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston and as an associate professor at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, among other positions.
His research and teaching focus on international economics and macroeconomics, particularly issues relating to growth, long-term development and geopolitics. In recent years, his research has taken him to Belgium, Colombia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, among other places.
Manuel Oechslin will succeed Professor Lüchinger, who has headed the Faculty of Economics and Management since 2022.
