Prof. Dr. Karin Müller

Karin Müller studied Law at the University of Zurich. Her studies were followed by internships in court and at a Lucerne law firm. After being admitted to the bar in 1997, she worked as a member of Prof. Walter Fellmann's staff in the law firm Fellmann Tschümperlin Lötscher (1997-2005). In 2003 she earned her doctorate from the University of Lucerne with a thesis entitled 'The transfer of membership in an ordinary partnership: a contribution to the discussion of joint ownership law'. After completing her thesis, in addition to her work with Prof. Fellmann she also served as a senior teaching and research assistant in Private Law at the University of Lucerne (2003-2005). From July 2005 to July 2006 she worked at the University of Zurich as a senior teaching and research assistant in the field of Civil Procedure, Debt Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law.

On 1 October 2006, Karin Müller was appointed Assistant Professor of Partnership Law at the University of Lucerne. She subsequently completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Zurich with a monograph entitled 'Equity-replacing loans, dogmatic foundations and practical consequences'. On 1 February 2014, the University of Zurich appointed Karin Müller Associate Professor of Private Law, Commercial and Business Law and Civil Procedure Law. She has been a full Professor of Private Law, Commercial and Business Law and Civil Procedure Law at the University of Lucerne since 1 August 2014. Karin Müller was a visiting professor of company law at the University of St. Gallen in the spring semester of 2022.

Karin Müller has been a member of the advisory board of the National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises since 1 January 2020, and since 2009 has served as the University of Lucerne Faculty of Law’s law library delegate (delegate for library questions). She is a member of the Federal Office of Justice’s expert group for ‘collective redress’ (since 2017). Karin Müller has been a founding member of Institute for Economy and Regulation (WIRE) since 2018, a member of the faculty management for the University of Lucerne since August 2019, and chair of the Private Law subject area under the Faculty of Law since 2022. She was appointed to the ‘Swiss Review of Business and Financial Market Law’ (SZW), editorial board in September 2021. From 2016 to 2019, Karin Müller was a member of the board of the Swiss Institute of Comparative Law in Lausanne/Dorigny.
