What connects data governance, health inequalities, and behavioral economics? The answer lies at the heart of Learning Health Systems — systems that continuously integrate evidence to improve care, policy, and practice.
In this series by the Competence Center for Learning Health Systems, three researchers bring complementary lenses to one shared challenge: closing the gap between evidence and action. Across three sessions, researchers in health policy, behavioral economics, and health economics explore how evidence can inform and be integrated into policy and practice. Together, they ask what a health system truly needs in order to learn and what stands in the way. The series is moderated by Dr. Helena Antonie Baier.
For Session 3, the speaker will be Associate Professor Silvia Angerer from UMIT Tirol, whose expertise focuses on behavioral and experimental economics, health economics and the economic behavior of children. This session examines how patients perceive the social norm of involvement in medical decision-making within the doctor-patient relationship. Drawing on a norm-nudge experiment conducted with the general population in Austria, Silvia Angerer explores the role of social norms in shaping patient participation and what this means for designing health systems that genuinely engage the people they serve.
The webinar series is open to the public. It will be held in English. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required. The access link for the online session will be shared in advance.
