• Studied law at the University of Fribourg;
• Admission to the bar and notary examination in the Canton of Lucerne;
• 3 years of court work at the District Court of Lucerne (clerk of the court and extraordinary district court judge);
• Dissertation and post-doctoral lecture qualification (habilitation) at the University of Fribourg;
• Research trips to Hamburg (Germany), Berkeley (USA), Cambridge and Edinburgh (GB);
• Full Professor at the University of Fribourg from 1992 to 2001;
• Since 2001 Professor of Private Law and Private Comparative Law at the University of Lucerne; 2004–2011 Delegate for doctrinal issues; 2005–2007 Dean of the Faculty of Law.
