History

The Faculty of Law was founded after the cantonal vote of May 21, 2000, in which more than 70% of the votes were in favour of a university project as established by the government and the Great Council. The Lucerne Faculty of Law is the youngest law faculty in Switzerland. We opened our doors on October 1, 2001. The build up of the program was parallel to the personnel build-up of each academic year. The first semester 2001/2002 started with 10 professors and 145 students. The further development is reassuring and according to plan: At the 10th anniversary in fall 2011, the Faculty is made up of 27 professors and some 1200 students.

Detailed information about the development of the Faculty of Law may be found in the Annual Reports of the University of Lucerne(in German).
