CV
Nadine Arnold is a Professor of Sociology with a focus on Micro-Organizational Sociology. Prior to her appointment at the University of Lucerne, she was an Assistant Professor of Organizational Theory at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She obtained her PhD at the University of Lucerne and, in addition to a research stay at Uppsala University in Sweden, conducted research for several years – supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation – at the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay and Université Gustave Eiffel in France. She has conducted empirical research for Fairtrade International, the European Commission, and UNHCR, and held teaching assignments at the Universities of Zurich, Freiburg, and the Technical University of Berlin.
Her research program focuses on the relationship between organizations and society, particularly on newer organizational forms and standards aimed at promoting the sustainable development of society. A particular emphasis is placed on the organization of responsibility and the associated processes of valuation. Food systems are frequently the focus of her research projects, which have taken her not only to Switzerland but also to Germany, Finland, Uganda, Ivory Coast, and Ghana.
Nadine Arnold serves as an Associate Editor for two international academic journals, the Journal of Organizational Sociology and the Journal of Rural Studies, and is a member of the interdisciplinary research network "Waste in Motion." She is part of the board of the Section on Organizational Sociology of the German Sociological Association, where she co-founded the working group "Organization and Valuation." Additionally, she is responsible for the column Soziologischer Standpunkt in the Luzerner Zeitung, where she regularly writes contributions.
