Nadine Arnold is Professor of Sociology with a focus on Micro-Organizational Sociology at the University of Lucerne. Prior to her appointment in Lucerne, she served as Assistant Professor of Organization Theory at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (the Netherlands). She earned her PhD from the University of Lucerne and, in addition to a research stay at Uppsala University (Sweden), conducted several years of research in France at the École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay and Université Gustave Eiffel with funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

She currently leads the SNSF-funded research project “Translating Refugee Participation Locally” and is a member of the interdisciplinary research network “Waste in Motion,” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). She has also conducted research projects for Fairtrade International, the European Commission, and UNHCR.

Nadine Arnold’s research and teaching focus on the relationship between organizations and society, with particular attention to new forms of organizing that contribute to sustainable social development. Her empirical research has taken her to Germany, Finland, Uganda, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, in addition to Switzerland. She has taught at the Universities of Zurich and Fribourg as well as at the Technical University of Berlin. Her commitment to innovative teaching is reflected in the book “Wenn Food Waste sichtbar wird” (Making Food Waste Visible), which she co-authored with students.

Nadine Arnold serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Organizational Sociology and the Journal of Rural Studies and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Swiss Journal of Sociology. Within the Swiss Sociological Association, she co-founded the Research Committee “Organization and Society.” She also serves on the Executive Board of the Organizational Sociology Section of the German Sociological Association and co-founded its Working Group on “Organisation und Bewertung” (Organization and Valuation). Furthermore, she is a co-coordinator of the “New Institutionalism Network”.

Beyond academia, she contributes sociological perspectives to public debate. She is responsible for the column “Soziologischer Standpunkt” (Sociological Standpoint) in the Luzerner Zeitung, where she regularly contributes.
