Center for Health, Policy and Economics

At the Center for Health, Policy & Economics (CHPE) at the University of Lucerne, we conduct empirical and analytical research to improve the understanding and performance of health-care systems in Switzerland and internationally. Our Centre brings together health economists, policy analysts, and health-systems researchers who work across four thematic areas: (1) Equity and Value in Health Systems, (2) Politics and Governance of Health Care, (3) Behavioural Drivers in Health and Clinical Decision-Making, and (4) Health Economics and Policy in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.

Using advanced econometrics, mixed-methods evaluation, and policy modelling, we generate evidence that supports public authorities, insurers, and providers in assessing policy options and system design. As part of our teaching mission, we offer courses, internships, and thesis supervision that provide students with strong methodological foundations and an in-depth understanding of contemporary health-system challenges.

CHPE also contributes to methodological development in health economics and policy analysis, including econometric models for discrete outcomes, heterogeneous choice modelling, causal inference frameworks, and mixed-methods evaluation designs. These methodological tools underpin our empirical research across all axes and support collaborations with national and international partners.
