Innovative teaching projects
The University Teaching Committee (ULEKO) supports the implementation of innovative teaching projects.
Funding is available for innovative teaching projects with a robust overall concept. Applications can only be submitted by members of the University of Lucerne for teaching programmes at the same institution. The programme is not intended to support events that form part of established teaching activities. The following are some examples of areas in which projects can be located:
- Student-centredness and activation: Focusing on learning processes and learning outcomes
- Testing or expanding new blended or e-learning formats, dealing with large groups, new forms of performance assessment, etc.
- Promotion of interdisciplinary competencies
Designing innovative performance assessments
Direct financial compensation for the applicant is generally excluded, as the teaching activity is already remunerated through employment.
Technical equipment: Decisions regarding the purchase of technical equipment, such as cameras, are made on an individual basis. Please note that the equipment will be transferred to the Teaching Centre's equipment pool after the project has been completed. Please contact the Teaching Centre in advance to find out which equipment is already available.
Excursions are generally not funded unless they offer the students particular didactic added value, as set out in the concept.
The ULEKO's assessment criteria for an overall concept primarily relate to justifying the didactic 'setting', using teaching methods appropriately against the background of the project objectives, adding didactic value, and orienting towards the target group. Innovative approaches, such as the introduction of innovations or the adaptation of modern teaching methods not previously used at the University of Lucerne, are particularly welcome, as are projects that address the challenges of university teaching and propose solutions.
Present your project to us in a brief and concise document of no more than three A4 pages. Feel free to contact zentrum.lehre@unilu.ch in advance to discuss your project. Please familiarise yourself with the following points:
Project content
- Basic idea: What is the basic idea behind your project? Describe your specific project goals. How and why did the idea come about?
- Procedure: Describe exactly what you are doing as part of the project. What does the didactic concept look like? Are there any special teaching/learning methods or technical aids involved? What problem are you addressing? How will you achieve the project goals?
- Added value: Describe the didactic added value of your project. What will the students/lecturers gain from it? What solutions can be expected? How will things change compared to the 'status quo'?
Course of the project
- Use of funds: How will the additional financial support from the university be utilised? Is there any further financial support or commitments from other organisations? What is the overall financial framework? (Enclose budget.)
- Project progression: Which project stages have been planned and when will the project start and end?
- Evaluation: How is the evaluation planned?
A maximum of CHF 4,000 can be requested for teaching/ learning projects.
In exceptional circumstances, the ULEKO may award larger sums.
Funding horizon: In principle, projects lasting one semester are funded. In exceptional cases, as outlined in the application, projects may exceed one semester; however, the maximum funding amount will not increase. Please note that for long-term projects, ULEKO provides start-up funding only. After a pilot phase, funding must be secured from other sources (e.g. faculty, institute, third-party funding).
15. February (for the autumn semester the following year).
1. September (for the following spring semester).
After the project has been completed, a short final report summarising the project must be submitted to the Teaching Centre. The report should be no more than two pages long and should include pictures and graphics where possible. This report will be made available on the university website under Innovative Lehrprojekte/Geförderte Projekte.
Funded projects should also be presented at university events (e.g. Teaching Day, Info Lunch).
