Dr. Laurence Lerch
CV
As a computer scientist and theologian, Laurence works at the interface of technology, society and ethics. After studying in Munich, Rome and Lugano, he completed his doctorate at the University of Lucerne in 2024. His dissertation deals with the “Ethics of Cryptography”. In it, he argues that a digital society is dependent on free and accessible encryption technologies and that attempts at regulation such as client-side scanning should be rejected both ethically and technologically.
He has been a lecturer at the Institute of Social Ethics since 2025. His main job is in cyber defense at a financial institution in Zurich.
