The academic focus of the Chair of Philosophy at the Faculty of Theology lies in the areas of ontology, metaphysics, philosophy of religion and epistemology from a systematic-theoretical perspective. Historically, the focus is on ancient and medieval philosophy (in particular Plato, Aristotle and Thomas Aquinas) as well as contemporary “analytical Thomism”. Particular attention is paid to the points of contact between the so-called “continental” and “analytical” traditions of philosophy. Since 2004, the professorship has also been responsible for representing philosophical ethics.
