The Online Master's in Philosophy, Theology and Religions (PhilTeR) is an international and interreligious online course of graduate study. As part of the University of Lucerne, Switzerland, the course of study it offers is centered on the mutual relationship between religions and philosophy from both a historical and a theoretical point of view. Moreover, it was conceived and designed as an online program and is thus ideally suited for a student body drawn from over the world. This online format also allows for a similarly international faculty: our course instructors are all leading experts in their given area of philosophy and/or religious thought, and include some of the world’s most well-respected scholars working in these fields.
- The programme runs for two years, with two semesters (or terms) per year.
- The programme is designed to encompass the best aspects of two formats for postsecondary education, ensuring the pedigree of a Swiss education together with the flexibility of online study.
- The curriculum consits of various modules on the following topics: History of Philosophy and Religions: Basic Concepts, History of Medieval/Modern Philosophy and Religions, God in the History of Philosophy (“Modernity”), Contemporary Philosophy and Religions: Topics and Problems
- Anyone with a bachelor’s degree recognized by the University of Lucerne in philosophy, theology, or religious studies can be admitted to the program. Applicants with an equivalent undergraduate degree can also be admitted after a formal check by the University.
- Leading professors are part of the programme; such as Peter Adamson, Richard Cross, Tyron Goldschmidt, Gyula Klima, Ryan Mullins, Giovanni Ventimiglia and Linda Zagzebski.
- The programme starts twice a year: mid-February (Spring semester) and mid-September (Autumn semester).
- All applications must be submitted online no later than 30 November (or no later than 31 January for late registrations) for the Spring Semester. For the Autumn semester all applications must be submitted online no later than 30 April (or no later than 31 August for late registrations).
- Scholarships may be available that cover 100% of tuition fees.
