Equity and Value in Health Systems

In this research area, we examine how health systems allocate resources, structure incentives, and balance equity, value, and efficiency.

We analyse health system financing arrangements, provider-payment mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks using econometric analysis, comparative policy evaluation, and cost-effectiveness methods. A key line of research investigates how financing structures, tariffs, and benefit designs affect provider behaviour, patient choices, and the distribution of costs and benefits across populations.

We also study how reforms in financing and organisation influence system performance, including access, quality, and fiscal sustainability. This includes work on tariff development, direct-access models, hospital benchmarking, and assessments of value in service delivery. By integrating empirical evidence with rigorous analytical tools, our research contributes to understanding how health system design shapes incentives and outcomes, and supports informed decision-making by insurers, public authorities, and providers.
