This page helps students find a suitable match for thesis supervision as well as oral and written final exams (for both Bachelor and Master degrees). We kindly ask students to follow the steps indicated below, check the list of potential supervisors and examiners in the relevant section, and learn about their availability, topical interests, methodological specializations, and specific requirements.
First steps
Check in their profile below whether the person mentions a topic of interest and methodological specialization that overlaps with your interests.
Check whether the potential supervisor/examiner is still available for supervision or exams (DIRECT LINK TO GOOGLE SHEET).
Next steps for thesis supervision
Contact a potential supervisor who is available and overlaps with your interests by sending them the specific materials they request, which are indicated in their profile below.
For Master thesis, limit your first contact to the first supervisor and then discuss with that supervisor who would be a suitable second supervisor.
Note that contacting someone with a rough idea of a topic usually does not suffice. Instead, after having consulted the relevant literature, approach potential supervisors with possible research questions that address a gap in the literature and that are narrow enough so you can answer them.
Next steps for oral and written exams
OPTION 1 WITH QUESTIONNAIRE AND SEPARATE DEADLINE (STRONG PREFERENCE AGAINST THIS): Tell us your first and second preferences by filling out this questionnaire (DIRECT LINK TO GOOGLE FORM).
OPTION 2 WITH SIMILAR PROCESS AS FOR THESIS SUPERVISION (STRONG PREFERENCE FOR THIS): Contact a potential examiner who is available and overlaps with your interests by sending them the specific materials they request, which are indicated in their profile below.
Note that the topical and methodological overlap is sometimes less important for exams than for thesis supervision. Concrete lectures or seminars by the examiner may also serve to define a relevant topic.
Note that potential examiners' requirements for topic selection may range from a fixed list of topics with a fixed literature list to maximum freedom in your choice of topics. This information can be found in their profile below.
What to do if you do not find anyone
Please contact your study advisor if you do not find anyone.
Do this as early as possible, as we cannot guarantee that we can help find a match when dealing with last-minute requests before the registration deadline.
