Competence Center for Learning Health Systems
The Competence Center for Learning Health Systems at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, University of Lucerne, advances practice-oriented research in Learning Health Systems. Our goal is to help health systems learn from both real-world experience and scientific evidence, and to adapt effectively to changing needs and challenges.
We connect science, practice, and policy through co-creation and participatory methods, actively involving stakeholders to develop solutions that support better healthcare. Our work includes researching infrastructure and governance models that strengthen knowledge exchange and support evidence-informed decision-making. Key activities include designing and testing Learning Health System approaches, building capacity for researchers and practitioners, and generating insights that can inform health policy.
Our work is guided by four interconnected pillars:
- Learning Health Systems – Developing infrastructures, governance models, and methods that enable continuous learning from scientific evidence and real-world experiences.
- Evidence-Informed Support for Policy Decisions – Providing research-based insights to inform and strengthen health policy and governance.
- Co-Creation and Participatory Methods – Collaborating with stakeholders to jointly design and implement solutions for healthcare improvement.
- Capacity Building for Evidence-Informed Practice and Policy – Equipping researchers, practitioners, and decision-makers with the skills and tools to apply evidence in practice and policy.
