Prof. Thomas Nyffeler, MD
CV
Thomas Nyffeler is a full professor and deputy vice-dean of Medicine and Medical Science at the University of Lucerne, as well as head of University Education and Research, co-director at the Clinic of Neurology und Neurorehabilitation and head of Neurorehabilitation at the Lucerne cantonal hospital (LUKS), where he has led the clinical and scientific development of neurorehabilitation since 2012.
Before assuming his current leadership role in Lucerne, he served as senior physician at the Department of Neurology, Inselspital, University Hospital Bern (2007–2012), as well as attending physician in the same department (2003–2006). He further broadened his international expertise as a research fellow at INSERM U679, Hôpital de la Salpêtrière in Paris (2006–2007).
Research
Thomas Nyffeler’s research focuses on the physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of spatial visual perception, with a special emphasis on visuospatial neglect following stroke, eye movement analyses, and non-invasive brain stimulation. He developed a novel non-invasive brain stimulation technique called modified continuous Theta Burst Stimulation (cTBS), which can induce long-lasting behavioural effects.
