Sarah Mantwill, PhD, is the Research Director of the Competence Center for Learning Health Systems at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, University of Lucerne. Until mid-2025, she served as Research Manager of the Swiss Learning Health System (SLHS), working in close collaboration with its Governing Board. Her overarching research interest lies in advancing Learning Health Systems as a framework for strengthening healthcare through continuous cycles of data, evidence, and practice-based improvement. She focuses on evidence-informed policy support and participatory methods, specializing in co-creation processes and stakeholder engagement strategies that bring together policy-makers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and citizens to address pressing health system challenges.
She is also Head of Dialogue and serves on the Steering Committee of Smarter Health Care, a national health services research network that brings together researchers, policy-makers, and practitioners. The network is part of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+).
Sarah holds a PhD in Communication Sciences with a focus on Health Communication from the University of Lugano, Switzerland. Prior to joining the Faculty, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston (2016–2017). She also holds an MSc in Communication and Economics from the University of Lugano.
