Messages from the University Board

Migration of StudMAIL mailboxes to Microsoft M365

In the spring semester 2024, the email inboxes of all students will be migrated from the local email system to Microsoft M365 as part of the University of Lucerne's M365 project. This migration is part of our efforts to improve the performance, security and reliability of our email platform. Read the article to find out what will change and what you need to do as a student.

Master’s Information Evenings | New Master's degree course

The Master's information evenings of each faculty will take place on Tuesday, 19th March 2024. Those interested in the Master's in Health Sciences can also attend selected courses in March and get advice. More info 

The new Master's degree course in Climate Politics, Economics, and Law (CPEL), the only one of its kind in Switzerland, will start in autumn semester 2024. More info 


 

Canteen: Price and offer adjustments

Following consultation with the university, prices and the range of food on offer in the canteen have been adjusted at the beginning of the year. The side dish (salad or soup) previously included in the menu line is now offered separately for CHF 2.50. There have also been changes to the side dishes and coffee range. The price for the 'VegVeg Menu' for students has been reduced by CHF -.50. And the discount for BYO Cup is now CHF -.50. For details, see ZFV guest information (pdf, in German). Sustainability Weeks 11th to 22nd March at the Lucerne Campus

Two sustainability weeks will take place from 11th to 22nd March 2024 under the motto 'Regenerative Fingerprint'. The student association VENALU is organising various events on the topic of sustainability. The events are mostly interactive (workshops) and open to everyone (students, lecturers and the public) free of charge. More info and registration via www.venalu.ch.
Sustainable on the go: bring your own cup for a hot drink to the canteen and save 50 centimes.


 

Pilot project: free menstrual products

The University of Lucerne is launching a pilot project in the spring semester 2024: during the test phase, free menstrual products will be available in the ladies' and wheelchair-accessible toilets on the 1st floor (library). By providing tampons and sanitary towels free of charge, the university is continuing to promote equal opportunities in every area of university life.


 

Swiss Study Foundation Summer Academies

The Swiss Study Foundation's summer academies are open to all students at Swiss universities. In interdisciplinary groups, participants are introduced to new fields of knowledge by experts, an opportunity to deal with current topics in a broader context (participation costs CHF 200). Semester fee and current contact data

Please remember to pay the invoice for the semester fee in order to keep your 'enrolled' status (payment deadline 19th February 2024, end of enrolment period 15th March 2024). After payment, you can download the enrolment confirmation from the UniPortal. New students will receive the confirmation of enrolment when they enrol in person. Contact: studiendienste@unilu.ch

Please make sure that your current address, phone number and private e-mail address are entered in the UniPortal. You can make changes yourself at any time directly in the UniPortal.

From Monday 15th to Wednesday 17th April, you will receive information directly from exchange students from all over the world. Language courses

The following language courses are offered in the spring semester: English speaking and writing C1 and above, Italian A1.1, Italian A1.2 (beginners with some previous knowledge) and French B1.1. For students whose mother tongue is not German, we offer the following courses: German A1.1 and German A2.2. Mentors for the refugee programme

In the spring semester 2024, the University of Lucerne will again be offering a 'taster programme' for refugees. We are looking for motivated and committed students who are open to interesting exchanges with refugees. As part of the programme, smaller events and excursions are organized; the main task of the mentors is to form a language tandem with 1-2 participants. The library will have special opening times: 9 th / 12th / 19th / 20th / 26th / 30th May and 2nd / 9th / 16th June 2024 – from 9am to 5pm.

Campus offers

HSCL sports programme and Lucerne city run

During the semester, the HSCL sports programme includes 112 weekly training sessions, 74 courses/camps, 6 events, various health consultations and massage offers as well as digital offers. All students of the University are cordially invited to run with the Uni Lucerne team in the Lucerne City Run on Saturday, 27th April 2024. The entry fee is sponsored by the University. More info


 

Strengthen your resilience

The Psychological Counselling Centre Campus Lucerne offers counselling sessions for students and university staff. Psychological counselling is free of charge and open to all topics. In addition to individual counselling sessions, the Counselling Centre also offers workshops on examination techniques (18th April), resilience training (23rd April), relaxation exercises (7th May) and workshops 'on demand' for groups of 4 or more on various topics relating to mental health. Prevention of Sexual Harassment: confidants

The three Lucerne universities offer a joint service for persons affected by sexual harassment. Any form of sexual harassment at a place of work or study is unacceptable and will result in appropriate measures and sanctions. Affected persons have the opportunity to receive quick and competent support by contacting one of the four confidants. More info

Discover the power of silence in the meditation workshop on Saturday, 13th April 2024. Particularly suitable for beginners. Online registration via the sports programme.
On Monday, 22nd April at 5.15 pm, Prof. Dr Nikolaus Wandlinger will give a talk on the hidden theology of the Harry Potter novels.

News from the Studiladen

The 'Studiladen' is a small business run by students of the University/PH Lucerne. The Studiladen is expected to open its own café/bar directly on campus in autumn 2024. Prize money will be awarded in a naming competition. Applications can also be submitted for open barista positions and a management position. Opening hours | Open positions | Info flyer 


 

Lectures 'Senioren-Uni': Students welcome

The Lucerne Senior Citizens' University regularly organises lectures that take place in the Uni/PH building. Admission is free for students. Lectures Senioren-Uni


 

No more stage fright! Be seen, heard and understood

The 'No more stage fright' course not only teaches essential presentation techniques, but also the art of self-confident body language and breathing techniques. In collaboration with the University of Bern, this course will take place on 22nd April 2024 in the main building of the University of Bern. It is aimed at female students, academics and female administrative staff. The course is free of charge for members of the University of Lucerne. Places are limited.


 

Sing along in the university choir

Rehearsals for the new concert programme start at the beginning of each semester. Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays at 7 pm in the Aula Sentimatt in Lucerne. University students who enjoy singing are very welcome. Tenor and bass voices in particular are looking forward to reinforcement. More info: unichor-luzern.ch

Neptun: Hardware at reduced prices

'Projekt Neptun' offers a selection of Apple, Lenovo and HP-laptops, tablets, printers and screens at significantly reduced prices. The devices are available for purchase until the 11th March 2024. More info www.projektneptun.ch
Demo Day: Today, on 20th February from 09.30am to 2.30pm the Neptun team, as well as representatives from various laptop manufacturers and shops will be in the university building (foyer area) to demonstrate their devices and to answer your questions.
Help Point: For customers, there is a Help Point at the University of Lucerne for general technical support. For students, the first 60 minutes of support for their Neptun device are free of charge.


 
 
Research

Call for papers: new submission deadline

On 19th June 2024 the International Conference on Theology and Leadership will take place at the University of Lucerne. Students are invited to submit proposals on future leadership models by the end of February 2024.

Distribution of the Semester Info is done in either German or English.

If necessary, you can change your language within UniPortal (German or English). The language you opt for will then apply to all of the bilingual communication that is sent out by the University of Lucerne.
