Professorship of Philosophy

The scientific focus of the chair of philosophy at the faculty of theology is two-fold: systematically, emphasis lies on ontology, metaphysics, philosophy of religion and epistemology; historical focal-points are ancient and medieval philosophy, in particular Plato, Aristotle and Aquinas, as well as contemporary analytical thomism. Of particular interest are points of contact between so-called 'continental' and 'analytic' traditions of philosophy.

Since 2004, the chair of philosophy also covers philosophical ethics.

Prof. Dr. phil. Giovanni Ventimiglia occupies the chair since the 1st of August 2016.

His pre-decessor, Prof. em. Dr. phil. Rafael Ferber, continues to be affiliated to the University of Zurich (UZH) as adjunct professor.
