The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine is made up of three close-knit sections: Health Sciences and Health Policy, Medicine and Medical Sciences and Rehabilitation Sciences and Human Functioning Sciences.

The Health Sciences and Health Policy section focuses on research into what is known as functioning health and addresses the best way to organise the health system at all levels. The faculty offers a Bachelor in Health Sciences (BSc), a Master in Health Sciences (MSc) and a PhD Program in Health Sciences. The section heads up an inter-university research platform, the Swiss Learning Health System, which is supported by swissuniversities, the rectors' conference for all universities.

The Medicine and Medical Sciences section deals with the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses within the scope of clinical sciences and also covers the optimum provision of clinical services.
The section offers a Joint Medical Master in cooperation with the University of Zurich and as of 1st February 2022, it will be possible to earn a Medical Doctor. The faculty also offers a further education programme called CAS Palliative Care. In the field of research, the section runs a Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) - a scientific platform with standardised processes for conducting clinical trials in accordance with ethical and scientific criteria.

The Rehabilitation Sciences and Human Functioning Sciences section focuses on the best way to organise the health, social and employment systems with the aim of optimising human functioning in the event of illness, after an accident or during old age. In this section, the faculty works in close cooperation with the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil. The section’s scientific activities are coordinated in the new Center for Rehabilitation in Global Health Systems, which has also been a World Health Organisation cooperation centre since 2019.
