News from the ZHB Lucerne Library

Importing student data into the library system

The data of all newly enrolled students is automatically forwarded to the ZHB’s library system, as long as consent was given for this data transfer during registration.

The password for all user numbers is your year of birth (4 digits).

A treasure trove with over 5 million journal articles

Thanks to the 'Nationallizenzen' project, access can now be gained to the journal archives of the following important scientific publishing houses:

  • De Gruyter Journals
  • Springer Journals
  • Cambridge University Press Journals
  • Oxford University Press Journals

The archive has been integrated into the iluplus.ch search engine.
The library’s website offers an overview of all the e-media on offer.

Next edition – bilingual

Semester Info in German or English

Distribution of the Semester Info is done in either German or English.
German version

If necessary, you can change your language within UniPortal (German or English). The language you opt for will then apply to all of the bilingual communication that is sent out by the University of Lucerne.

The Semester Info provides you with official announcements and information from the Executive Board of the university at the beginning and end of each semester. 
The faculties will contact you directly with information about lectures and your course of study.


 
 
Student Administration Office information

Lockers: Key rental from Infodesk

There are 644 lockers available for rent on the 1st basement floor. In order to arrange key rental, please fill in the form Antrag Schliessfach first and then go to the Infodesk on the ground floor of the university building.

UniPortal: changes to personal data

Please communicate any changes to your personal data (postal address etc.) and student data such as exmatriculation as soon as possible via UniPortal https://portal.unilu.ch


 

Semester fees

Please take note of the fact that your semester fees’ invoice needs to be paid by 13th October 2017 in order to ensure the continuation of your enrolment status.


 

Lost property at the Infodesk

Lost property can be collected or handed in at the Infodesk on the ground floor, during opening hours.


 

Validating your Campus Card

Please remember to validate your Campus Card (via the blue box on the ground and basement floors). If you lose your card, or if it does not work, please visit the Student Administration Office in room 4.A04, open daily from 10am to 1pm.

How to react when an alarm is triggered within the university

In the event of an emergency you will be informed of any action you need to take by means of an announcement.

House rules

After 5 years of operation, the Uni/PH-building’s house rules have been reviewed  and revised by a working group consisting of representatives from the faculties, academic teaching staff, students and administrative/technical personnel.
With approximately 4’000 people inside the building at any given time, rules are necessary. Please read the house rules (pdf), which can be found on the website and which are also displayed within the building. Smoking breaks and ventilation breaks

Despite not being directly related to the subject of house rules, the topic of smoking near the main university entrance and the 2nd floor entrance was also discussed by the working group.

Measles: Information from Lucerne’s Department of Health

Canton Lucerne’s Department of Health kindly requests those that have not been infected with measles to vaccinate themselves against this disease. More information and instructions can be found here: More info (in German)

SOL Information

eVoting Best Teaching Award

Each year SOL organises a vote for the 'Best Teacher'. The 'Credit Suisse Best Teaching Award' recognises outstanding performance in education, training and in the development of the University of Lucerne’s students. This award shows appreciation for- and rewards the teaching competence of the University of Lucerne's lecturers. The award is presented as part of the dies academicus ceremony on the 2nd November 2017.
From the 2nd to the 10th October four finalists will be elected via eVoting. All students have the possibility to vote for their favourite lecturer online. The best lecturer from each faculty will then be short-listed and an election committee comprising of students will then choose who should receive the 2017 Best Teaching Award. More information will follow shortly.

SEMP-Programme (Swiss-European Mobility Programme, exchange within Europe): 1st March 2018 for the autumn semester of 2018 and the spring semester of 2019
Partnership-Programme (exchange outside of Europe): 1st March 2018 for the autumn semester 2018
CH-Unimobil-Programme (exchange within Switzerland): 15th November 2017 for the spring semester 2018

International Day on 16th November: Info fair for outgoing exchange students

The International Relations Office (IRO) together with the PH Luzern will once again hold an 'International Day'.
From 9.30am to 1pm on Thursday, 16th November, the study exchange possibilities for prospective outgoing students will be presented. Students interested in receiving more information relating to study abroad are welcome to attend this information fair which will take place in the foyer of the Uni/PH-building. Registration is not required.

Neptun: Hardware at reduced prices

'Projekt Neptun' offers a selection of Apple, Lenovo and HP-laptops, tablets, printers and screens at significantly reduced prices. The devices are available for purchase from now until the 2nd October 2017. More information is available via www.projektneptun.ch

Mobility Carsharing

The University of Lucerne and Mobility Carsharing are partners. This partnership allows all enrolled students holding a valid Swiss driving licence to profit from the following special conditions: As a student you can buy an annual subscription for 70 CHF instead of the usual price of 290 CHF.
This scheme gives you access to a total of 2'950 vehicles and 1'500 locations across Switzerland.

Health insurance collective agreement

The University of Lucerne has a collective agreement with the Concordia health insurance schemes. This enables students at the University of Lucerne to obtain special deals on additional insurance. Ask Concordia directly for an individual offer.
