Welcome to the Fall Semester 2026 at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine (GMF)!

We hope you had a well-deserved and relaxing summer break. The new semester is just around the corner, and we are excited to welcome you back. While some of you are continuing the studies, others will soon be joining us for their very first semester. At the beginning of each semester, you will receive this information email with important dates, deadlines, and other useful information related to your studies.

Below you will find important dates of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine.

If you wish to visit courses of the study programs in Health Sciences at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, you have to register via the  e-learning platform moodle. The registration period for longitudinal courses starts two weeks before the beginning of each semester and is open for one week in the study program BSc Health Sciences and one week after the start of the course for the MSc Health Sciences course. For block courses a registration is possible during the actual course days. Students who have registered for the courses will have access to course materials and course information from the lecturers.

Please make sure that you are enrolled in the "News & Announcements" course in Moodle. You will also receive information from us via News & Announcements directly to your @stud.unilu.ch e-mail address.

New students will be informed about this again during the welcome day and will receive the necessary instructions.

Podcasts

Podcasts are available in selected courses*.  The Podcasts are intended to help you better understand the material. The recordings only serve as a supplement and do not replace on site participation. Technical problems may occur. The  risk of missing the recording of a lecture lies with the students who do not attend the lecture in person. It is also possible that not all sessions will be recorded. You can find more information about the digital teaching offer here. 

The podcasts will be available on Kaltura. A single registration on Kaltura is required so that we can activate you for the podcasts. You will then receive authorization from the IT. 

The podcasts of the first two weeks of the semester will only be available from around the third week of the semester.

Important: If two examination dates overlap there is no entitlement to a second examination date if the two courses (including podcasts) took place at the same time and day during the semester.

!!!  The mandatory registration and deregistration period for exams via Uniportal runs from 29 October 2026 00.00 hrs to 12 November 2026 at 23.59 hrs !!!

Only those who have registered on UniPortal from 29 October 2026 to 12 November 2026 can take part in the examinations and obtain credits at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine (GMF). This policy applies to ALL GMF courses.

Registration via UniPortal is ALSO MANDATORY for courses that do not end with a written examination.

Registration is binding. Deregistration after 12 November is no longer possible.

Do you have technical problems with the registration? Then please contact exams-health@unilu.ch immediately during the registration period. Any notifications received after this period will not be accepted.

Different registration deadlines at other faculties

Please note that other faculties may have different deadlines for course registration and exam registration, as well as different exam dates. It is the student's responsibility to take this into account when planning.

New Information Sheet on authorised aids for exams

From Fall Semester 2026 onward, the new "Authorised Aids for Exams" information sheet will apply. The most significant change from the previous version is the updated list of approved calculator models.

For examinations for which the responsible lecturer explicitly permits the use of a "simple pocket calculator", only the following models may be used: 

• TEXAS TI-30 ECO RS
• TEXAS TI-30 Xa
• Sharp EL-501 T
• CASIO FX-82 Solar II

This list is exhaustive.

Calculator covers or cases are not permitted at your desk during the exam. Calculators must be presented to the exam supervisors during the entry check prior to the exam.

INSPERA

Certain written exams are conducted via the cloud-based exam platform INSPERA. All exams take place in person at the university and are completed on students’ own laptops (bring your own device). Information on which exams are conducted via INSPERA can be found in the exam schedule and on the exam website. 

To participate in INSPERA exams, you have to install the Safe Exam Browser (SEB). The SEB ensures that only the exam environment can be used during the exam and that other applications on the laptop are blocked. 

The correct installation and functionality of the SEB are verified during a mandatory function test during the semester. Students who register for INSPERA exams will receive further information via email regarding the function test and the official notice after the registration deadline has passed. Installing the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) on your own outside of the official function tests is not permitted and will not be accepted, as not all versions of SEB are compatible with INSPERA. Proper installation of the SEB is also a prerequisite for taking the exam. 

Students who do not complete the function test are not entitled to assistance from the exam supervisor. In such cases, any time lost due to technical problems can not be compensated.

Disadvantage compensation

All requests for compensation for disadvantages must be submitted to the Dean's Office, addressed to the Study and Examination Board, by October 15 at the latest in order to be considered for the current semester.

Important: If you are taking courses at another faculty, you must also submit a separate application to the relevant faculty.  Please pay attention to the deadlines.

Submission Master's Thesis

Deadline for Master's Thesis in Fall 2026 is 15 October 2026. Further dates can be found on the website under Examinations.

Master in Health Sciences:

• Infoevent Master Thesis (Cohort 2025 and older): Monday, 21. September 2026, from 12.30 - 14.00 pm. at the University of Lucerne in Room 3.A05
   
• Infoevent Major & Research Internship (Cohort (2026): Wednesday, 21. October 2026, from 09.00- 10.30 am. at the University of Lucerne in Lecture Hall 6
   
• Internship Fair Fall 2026 (Cohort 2026): Tuesday, 3. November 2026, from 16.00- 18.00 pm. at the Foyer University of Lucerne

Communication via @stud.unilu.ch address

Communication with the Dean's Office is exclusively via the @stud.unilu.ch address. Emails sent to us from private email addresses are more likely to end up in the spam folder and may therefore remain unanswered.

Reminder Uniportal Address

Please ensure that your residential address in UniPortal is always up to date.

Consultation hours

The consultation hours take place Mondays from 13:30-15:00 p.m. in Room 3.A13.  There are no regular office hours during lecture-free periods. Please make an appointment via e-mail.
