Dear Incoming Students
Welcome to the Faculty of Law at the University of Lucerne! You have taken a courageous step in your academic career by choosing to spend the fall semester of 2022 at a foreign university, a decision that will be rewarded with unique opportunities both academically and socially. At the University of Lucerne, we pride ourselves on being an internationally orientated faculty with a wide range of courses offered in English. You will deepen your understanding of the law in a number of different fields and profit from a vibrant learning environment. Moreover, the scenic location of our campus in the heart of Switzerland provides for a perfect starting point for exploring numerous sights, ranging from the surrounding Swiss Alps all the way to major European cities. I am convinced that all these aspects will inspire you to make the most of your time in Lucerne. Beginning with this letter, you will receive important information that will help you to organize your exchange semester.

Incoming Welcome Session | Friday, 16 September 2022 | 10am – 2pm
Please reserve Friday, 16 September 2022 in your calendars for the formal meeting of incoming students. The office of student advisors of the Faculty of Law will provide you with a wealth of information relevant for your stay in Lucerne from the organisational, academic, and purely practical point of view. The formal part is followed by a lunch sponsored by the Faculty of Law. Details about the meeting will follow in due course. Attendance at the formal part is mandatory.
Start of Courses
Courses (except for certain block courses and guest lecture courses) start on Monday, 19 September 2022.
Please note that lectures customarily begin 15 minutes past the hour; usually 2-hour lectures mean 2 x 45 minutes, with a 15-minute break.

The descriptions for all law courses in English are separately listed again in this booklet: "Courses in English". All courses taught in English are Master level courses and are open also to undergraduate exchange students.
Introduction to Swiss Law Exclusively for Incoming Students
This course gives an overview on the Swiss legal system, the organisation of the Swiss state and the principles of the Swiss political system. Participation is highly recommended. Further details are published in the course catalogue.
Registration for courses does not happen until early September. You will receive your student account together with your personal @stud.unilu.ch e-mail address by the end of August 2022. Course registrations can only be done with these account details. We will inform you in due time about the registration process.
Examinations for Master courses in English take place 12 – 22 December 2022. Examinations for all Bachelor courses and Master courses in German take place 5 – 25 January 2023. Detailed information regarding the examination modes and the examination application procedure will follow shortly after the start of the semester.
Global Legal Studies Programme
