Call for NRP thematic proposals by SERI
The National Research Programmes (NRPs) are the federal government’s research funding tool to support research projects that develop knowledge useful in guiding decisions and practices – and thereby help to solve current challenges. At the request of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER), the Federal Council periodically decides on the thematic focus of new NRPs and the budget for each. Each NRP runs for a period of around two to five years. Since the instrument was first introduced, 80 NRPs have been launched, covering a wide range of themes.
Do you have an excellent idea concerning an urgent theme, which you would like to tackle within the frame of an interdisciplinary research project during the next years (2 up to 5 years duration) and a potential has for a NRP?

Deadline for theme proposals: 23 March 2022

Realisation of a project with partners abroad: Lead Agency and Weave, from 2022 on incl. Sweden
As an addition to the Lead Agency within the project funding scheme, the SNSF signed an agreement with partner agencies abroad to simplify the submission of multi-lateral projects. Weave and Lead Agency offer the advantage to researchers to submit only a single submission to one national agencies instead of several proposals to different national agencies. This saves a lot of time and effort on all sides.
From 2022 on, Sweden is included and an agreement with the USA and National Science Foundation is previewed.

Status of Switzerland ref. Horizon Europe
At the moment, Switzerland does have within Horizon Europe (2021-2027 a status as a third country state. The Federal Council’s stated aim remains Switzerland’s full association to Horizon Europe. Under non-associated third country status, researchers and innovators in Switzerland are able to participate in most Horizon Europe collaboration projects. As such, around two-thirds of programmes are accessible, although they will not be funded by the European Commission, but by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). However, participation in individual projects will not be possible. These include the prestigious grants from the European Research Council (ERC), the European Innovation Council (EIC) and certain Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).
