Health Services Research

The Swiss health system is facing major changes. These will be triggered in particular by socio-demographic developments, growing cost pressure, an increase in chronic and serious illnesses and medical-technical developments. Health services research is concerned with these changes and is developing important foundations for the further development of the health system. From a political science perspective, it deals with questions of the control of health care in the area of tension between market and state and between central and decentralised responsibility in the political multi-level system. In this field of research, Andreas Balthasar's research focuses on the sustainable provision of basic medical care and the optimisation of cooperation between science and politics.
