Recognition Award for Prof. Dr. Mira Burri
According to the canton's media release published today, Tuesday, Prof. Dr. Mira Burri "with her commitment [...] contributes to the good reputation and academic excellence of the University of Lucerne, to the international networking of Lucerne as a center of science, and thus to the cantonal common good in a comprehensive sense".
Prof. Dr. Mira Burri, born in 1975, has been appointed Associate Professor of International Business and Internet Law from 1 September 2021. She has been a teaching and research assistant as well as Managing Director for Internationalization at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lucerne since April 2016. Previously, she was, among other things, Head of Research at the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern, where she had already completed her doctorate (in 2006) and postdoctoral qualification (in 2015) in topics related to media and communications regulation. Mira Burri is the first researcher at the University of Lucerne to obtain project funding from the prestigious ERC (European Research Council) to the tune of 1.6 million Euros for her study "Trade Law 4.0". This is "groundbreaking research on an international level," according to the canton's communiqué.
In addition to Burri, graphic designer Niklaus Troxler will also receive a Recognition Award. Lucerne Cantonal President Reto Wyss state that: "the cantonal government is very pleased [...] to honor two outstanding personalities who stand for quality of life, innovation, cohesion and sustainability - the cornerstones of Lucerne's cantonal strategy". The award ceremony will take place on 13 September.
The Government Council's Recognition Award is awarded every year to persons or organizations that have rendered outstanding services to the general welfare or to the reputation of the Canton of Lucerne. It comes with a cash prize of 10,000 Swiss francs, which in this case is divided between the two recipients.
