Josianne Magnin studied law at the Universities of Lucerne and Neuchâtel and graduated with a double master's degree in 2014. In 2016 she received her doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Bernhard Rütsche with a thesis on police and state liability law, which was awarded the Prof. Walther Hug Prize and the Dissertation Prize of the University Association of Lucerne.
During her studies, Josianne Magnin was a research assistant to Prof. Dr. Walter Fellmann in the area of private law (focus on attorney and liability law). She also completed short internships at a Zurich business law firm and an international business law firm in Brussels.
Josianne Magnin has been working at Schärer Attorneys at Law in Aarau since 2016 - initially as a legal trainee, since 2018 as an attorney at law (bar exam for the Canton of Aargau). She is also a lecturer at the University of Lucerne in the field of public law and a speaker at various conferences.
In April 2020, Josianne Magnin returned to the University of Lucerne as senior research assistant and habilitation candidate at the chair of Prof. Dr. Nicolas Diebold.
