Student impressions of the study of religions programme

Janosch Hain (BA student)

Three years ago I chose to begin a course specialising in the study of religions at the University of Lucerne, and I have not regretted this decision. The study programme includes various interactive seminars where you can present your ideas and learn a lot from group discussions. Since I began my studies, I have continued to develop both socially and academically. Lucerne is also a beautiful, multicultural city with plenty of student life on offer.

Anastas Odermatt (MA student)

The study of religions programme at Lucerne is exciting, fascinating and relevant to today. I love it when new perspectives emerge regarding well-known phenomena and enjoy discovering how particular festivals, rites and customs came into existence. The programme’s relevance to the present day makes it possible to include public socio-political discussions in the course of studies and to debate them within the framework of the university. Attendees at lectures and events always include students from a variety of subject areas. This promotes an interdisciplinary approach and makes the study content even more exciting.

Mirjam Schallberger (graduate of the Joint Degree Master’s programme in Religion – Economy – Politics)

I completed my bachelor’s studies specialising in the study of religions and then decided to begin the new master’s programme, focusing on the key areas of religion, economy and politics. I found the entire study programme highly enriching, alongside specialist input I was also able to establish many contacts outside of the university in the field of interfaith, and I now feel as welcome in a mosque as I do in an Asian temple or a synagogue. I was involved in adult education during my studies and taught courses on interfaith related topics. Since completing my studies in the fall semester of 2010, I have been a lecturer at the Institute of Religious Education in St. Gallen and also teach religion and culture at a secondary school in Zurich.
