Mentoring Programme

The mentoring programme for incoming exchange student helps international students get accustomed to the campus life at the University of Lucerne. Mentors, which are regular Lucerne students, accompany the exchange students during their stay in Lucerne.

New beginnings can be tough! - In order to make things easier, incoming exchange students from our international programmes (ERASMUS, Partnerships) are invited to participate in the university’s mentoring programme, which provides them with a mentor during their stay in Lucerne. Who can participate in the programme?

The mentoring programme is open to all exchange students from our regular mobility programmes (ERASMUS, Partnerships), coming from abroad.

It is our experience that the mentoring programme is especially useful for students coming from overseas, which are not familiar with European and particularly Swiss customs. However, basically all exchange students are welcome to participate in the programme.

Who are the mentors?

Only regular Lucerne students can become mentors to the programme. As a rule, mentors have themselves participated in study abroad and spent some time in a foreign country. Mentors are in an advanced semester.

What is the programme about?

The mentoring programme accompanies exchange students during their stay at the University of Lucerne. Mentors help with all sorts of questions and problems, which are not related to the exchange students’ studies or administrative issues: For instance, opening a Swiss bank account or getting a Swiss cell phone plan.

With the direct contact to Swiss students, exchange students feel much more integrated and can enjoy their experience to the fullest.

How can I apply for the programme?

Incoming exchange students will be informed about the programme and the application details during their regular application process for their study abroad semester. The Mobility Office of the University of Lucerne will inform exchange students in due time.

How can I become a mentor?

The International Relations Office is always looking for additional mentors.

Prospective mentors ideally have spent a study abroad semester in a foreign country themselves (or are planning to do so in the near future). If you like to get in touch with international students and foreign cultures and you are ready to commit to the programme during at least one semester (longer commitments are most welcome), we would be happy to welcome you in the team.

Students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who are participating in the programme, can earn social credits for their work. For further information, please contact Ms. Eva Mertins (L_hc__ulinu--snitrem__ave) from the Deanery.

Are you interested in joining? We are looking forward to receiving your application (applications to be sent to L_hc__ulinu--teatilibom)!
