MISSION STATEMENT
The School of Law has had a mission statement before the beginning of its activities. This dates back to July 1, 2001 and was decreed by Founding Dean Paul Richli. This first mission statement was followed up by a renewed mission statement adopted by the Faculty Assembly of May 12, 2003.That second mission statement expanded substantively to include topics of academics, research and service, and has been modified systematically and continuously since then.
The School of Law has also formulated study goals for its program of studies since the beginning of its activities. The first framework was decreed by the Founding Dean at July 1, 2001. This framework was renewed by the study goals as laid down on October 1, 2003.
It is clear from this that the School of Law strives to provide for its students a comprehensive legal education which encompasses professional ethics and interdisciplinary skills. Specialising too early should be avoided.
In order to give students the best support, the law faculty established a mentoring system. Every student is assigned a professor who is in charge of counseling and addressing the academic needs of his or her mentees (§ 12 mission statement).
Furthermore, students have the possibility to address their requests to the delegate for student matters, to the Dean or to the student advisors.
To ensure supervisory quality, the School of Law sees that the student/professor ratio does not exceed 60 students per professor. Compared to other Swiss law faculties, this is an excellent ratio.
