Prof. Dr. Daniel Gerson, Universität Basel, illustrierte an Hand der Vereinsgründungen des letzten Jahrhunderts in Zürich und Basel die spannungsvollen Entwicklungen der jüdischen Gemeinschaft in der Schweiz. Der Titel lautete: "Bedrohtes Erbe einer ’Stammesreligion’ in einer offenen Gesellschaft: Der Streit über die Sicherung der Kontinuität des Judentums in der Diaspora."

Prof. Dr. Reinhard Schulze, Universität Bern, zeigte in seinem Vortrag "Zwischen Authentizität und Tradition: Der religiöse Erbstreit im Islam" auf, wie in der Gegenwart die Begriffe Authentizität und Moderne harmonisch nebeneinander bestehen können.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang W. Müller, Universität Luzern thematisierte den Streit um das religiöse Erbe innerhalb der Katholischen Kirche und plädierte für eine kontextuelle Ekklesiologie. Er wählte den Titel: "Der Januskopf der katholischen Kirche - der Katholizismus angesichts der Moderne".

"Bedrohen uns fremde Religionen?"
Am 3. und 4. September fand die Eröffnung des neuen Universitätsgebäudes an der Frohburgstrasse 3 statt. Es gab ein vielfältiges und spannendes Programm, welches einerseits zum Feiern dieses langersehnten Momentes einlud, andererseits aber die Gelegenheit bot, einen Einblick in den Universitätsbetrieb zu erhalten. Auch der Forschungsschwerpunkt "REGIE" präsentierte sich an diesen beiden Tagen. Im vierten Stock wurden drei Räume der Lehre und der Forschung gewidmet. Im Raum der Forschung konnten sich die Besucher und Besucherinnen über die verschiedenen Forschungsschwerpunkte informieren und mit den Forschenden direkt in Kontakt treten. Die zweite Möglichkeit REGIE dem Publikum vorzustellen bestand in einer Podiumsdiskussion mit dem Titel "Bedrohen uns fremde Religionen?". Um 11.45 Uhr warteten bereits zahlreiche Leute vor dem Hörsaal 2. Als dann um 12 Uhr das Podium im vollbesetzten Hörsaal von Herrn Prof. Arens eröffnet wurde, hörten die Zuschauer der ganzen Diskussion gespannt zu. Im Anschluss konnten die Zuhörenden Fragen stellen. Diese Möglichkeit wurde auch rege genutzt, sodass die Zeit kaum ausreichte, um die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Thema befriedigend abzuschliessen. Die Inhalte der Fragen zeigten, dass die Thematik des Forschungsschwerpunkte REGIE genau den Nerv der Zeit trifft. Die Leute setzten sich mit dem Thema der Religion sowie des "Fremden" stark auseinander, da sie auch von den Medien täglich damit konfrontiert werden. Aus diesem Grund ist eine wissenschaftliche Vertiefung und Beschäftigung unabdingbar. Ein Bericht zur Podiumsdiskussion ist hier abrufbar:

Members of REGIE with Dr. Wolfgang Vortkamp in Emmetten
From June 20 to June 22, 2011 members of the University Centre of Competence in Research „Religion and Social Integration in Europe“ - REGIE - held their second internal research meeting in Emmetten, intensively discussing matters of research and organization. The first part was dedicated to the issue of ‚integration’ and was divided into three working units. The invited referee Dr. Vortkamp stimulated discussions, using academic texts by Louis Wirth, John Dewey and Georg Simmel as well as his own texts and theses. Right from the beginning, Dr. Vortkamp stressed the important conceptual distinction between ‚assimilation’ and ‚integration’. In his view it is counterproductive to demand from groups simply to adjust to local societies or to assimiliate. This idea of integration will only result in the hardening of fronts. On the contrary, society should ask itself the challenging question, what could possibly be adopted from these groups. Thus, the respective groups could identify with society, since integration is closely connected to identity and affectivity as Dr. Vortkamp further explained. In addition, integration must be regarded as a process rather than a singular event.
The positive atmosphere furthered stimulating and controversial discussions which in turn fostered academic exchange.
The second part of the research meeting was dedicated to organizational issues concerning the REGIE congress in 2012 and future international cooperations.

Prof. Dr. Kenneth Wald, University of Florida, pointed out the different perceptions of religion in politics in the US and in Europe. His lecture was titled: "Integrative or divisive? Religion in Politics in the US and in Europe".

Prof. Dr. Martina Caroni, University of Lucerne distinguished in her lecture different sectors where integration takes place. She looked into the matter from a jurisprudential perspective and pointed out how integration can be successful. Her lecture was titled: "Religion - stumbling block or catalyst of successful integration in a democratic constitutional state?"
Internal research meeting at the retreat centre Kloster Fischingen
From 30/08 – 02/09/2010 the members of the University Centre of Competence in Research „Religion and Social Integration in Europe“ (REGIE) held an internal research meeting at the retreat centre Kloster Fischingen.
First PD Dr. Hermann-Josef Grosse Kracht (TU Darmstadt) lectured about José Casanova and Paul Nolte. On the basis of the theses of the two authors Edmund Arens (systematic theology), Martin Baumann (religious studies), Antonius Liedhegener (political science), Wolfgang Müller (dogmatics) and Markus Ries (church history) discussed the interrelation between religion and democratic societies. A closer look at terms such as “secularisation” and “modernity” shows that there are various forms of secularisation and also –in a global perspective – “multiple modernities”, all of which treat religion and especially “public religion” in a different way. In this respect, an important factor to be taken into consideration is the content of a respective religion. Another focus of discussion was the term “integration”. How do religions position themselves in civil society and how do they strive for public influence?
During the second part of the meeting, the members of REGIE had the opportunity to present their sub-projects and discuss them in view of Casanova’s and Nolte’s theses.
The third part of the meeting was dedicated to the planning of the international congress in 2012 and the upcoming „Religion and Integration Lectures“.
Guest Lecture by Prof. Dr. Ludger Viefhues
On March 11, 2010 Prof. Dr. Ludger Viefhues held a guest lecture with the title "Religion und Geschlechterbefreiung im Dienste der (selbst)gerechten Demokratie: eine politiktheoretische Analyse".
Launch Event
On November 18, 2009 the University Centre of Competence in Research „Religion and Social Integration in Europe“ appeared for the first time in public with the panel discussion "Minorities - Migration - Minarets".
