The Vanished University
In this documentary, we recall the 'bygone' University of Lucerne.
Once upon a time, there was a university which was spread out to fifteen smaller and larger locations throughout the city.
The team at the Chair for Science Studies tried to capture "The Vanished University" with images and sound.
It was not our aim to write an official history or to document the university as it "really" was. Rather we offer four perspectives in which we think about the wondrous and strange; about our experiences; and about the environment in which we used to study, teach and work. The university is more than an institution. And it is also more than a building. It is its own world, in which experiences are made, routes and places take on familiarity, and habits and customs are formed. With the move to the new university building, this world is ordered anew.
The documentary was shown on the Open Day of the new building on 3 and 4 September 2011. It can now be watched here.
