Transnational Legal Studies at the University of Lucerne School of Law

A sunny day down by the "Vierwaldstätter See". A sunny day down by the "Vierwaldstätter See". The School of Law at the University of Lucerne is pleased to introduce to you our transnational legal studies program. It is an ambitious venture that is, quite frankly, in its early stages. Nevertheless, we already offer a rather interesting and relatively extensive curriculum of courses in English, as well as additional courses that are suitable for visiting students who have a basic command of written and spoken German.

Whether you are a law student at a foreign law school, a student advisor or counselor, or a student already pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree in law from our school, these web pages and our brochures that are available to download will be a useful tool for you to get acquainted with our current course offerings that have a transnational focus, as well as our plans and visions for establishing a distinctly global campus here at the University of Lucerne.

A ‘global campus’ to us is not merely a slogan. We want Lucerne and our school to be a forum where students desiring to study abroad can interact daily with students from abroad; where teachers of the law from various backgrounds interact; where each student can gain from his or her classmates’ experiences with international studies; and where all can broaden their horizons, both as lawyers and as people.

The information provied here will, in the first place, serve as a guide to those from foreign countries who are considering spending a semester or year here and are choosing a program of study while in Lucerne. Additionally, those students from the University of Lucerne seeking to spend a semester or longer abroad can prepare themselves for instruction in English and international legal principles by taking the courses listed in this brochure.

International legal education is becoming more and more vital to legal practice, and our hope is to give students the tools and means to fulfill their educational goals.
